Using the Paging and Intercom Feature on Yeastar P-Series Cloud Edition

paging intercom announce PA one-way audio

Introduction

The paging and intercom feature lets you broadcast a live voice announcement to a group of phones or speak directly to a single phone. Unlike a normal call, the recipient's phone auto-answers and plays the audio immediately — no ringing and no need for the recipient to press anything.

Intercom = one extension to one extension (two-way conversation).
Paging = one extension to a group of extensions (one-way announcement).

Paging: Broadcasting to a group

Step 1 — Create a paging group

  1. Go to Call Features > Paging/Intercom, click Add then Paging Group.
  2. Set a Name (e.g. All Office, Warehouse).
  3. Set a Number (e.g. 6500) — this is what staff dial to activate the page.
  4. Under Members, move the extensions you want to receive pages from Available to Selected.
  5. Choose Paging Type:
  6. 1-Way — only the paging caller can speak; recipients hear but can't respond.
  7. 2-Way — any recipient can speak back (useful for intercom groups).
  8. Click Save and Apply.

Step 2 — Make a page

  1. Pick up any handset or open Linkus.
  2. Dial the paging group number (e.g. 6500).
  3. Speak your announcement immediately — there is no ringing; phones in the group auto-answer.
  4. Hang up when done.

Intercom: Direct two-way call to one extension

To open an intercom call directly to a single extension, prefix the extension number with *8:

*8 + extension number

Example: To intercom extension 1005, dial *81005.

The recipient's phone auto-answers and a two-way conversation opens.

Phone requirements for paging

  • The receiving phone must support auto-answer on SIP NOTIFY (Yealink phones support this by default).
  • The speaker on the receiving phone must not be muted.
  • If paging doesn't auto-answer on a phone, check the phone's auto-answer settings in its web interface: Account > Advanced > Auto Answer.

Tips

  • Paging is best used for brief public announcements. For private one-to-one communication, use the intercom feature instead.
  • Add a short beep tone before the announcement in your IVR prompt to alert recipients that a page is about to start.
  • Do not add external lines (trunks) to a paging group — paging only works to internal extensions.

Summary

Use paging groups for broadcasting announcements to multiple phones simultaneously, and *8 + extension for direct intercom to a single phone. Both auto-answer without ringing.
