On-Demand Call Recording Using *1 on Yeastar P-Series Cloud Edition
Rather not do this yourself?
X2Comms Managed Edition customers don't need this guide — we handle all configuration and system changes as part of the service. Not yet with X2Comms? We deploy and fully configure Yeastar systems from day one. Call 03301025678 to find out more.
Introduction
On-demand recording lets you start and stop recording during a live call at any time, without needing to have automatic recording enabled system-wide. This is useful when you want to record specific calls — a complaint, a confirmation of an order, or important instructions — without recording everything.
Feature code
- Start recording:
*1(during an active call) - Stop recording:
*1again
This toggles recording on and off. Press once to start, press again to stop. You can start and stop multiple times during a call — each segment is saved.
Using on-demand recording
On a Yealink desk phone
- While on an active call, press the
*1key sequence on the dialpad. - The PBX plays a short beep or announcement to confirm recording has started.
- To stop, press
*1again — another beep confirms recording has stopped.
In Linkus Mobile or Desktop
- During a call, tap/click the Record button (circular icon with a dot, or labelled "Record").
- Tap again to stop.
The record button is only visible if on-demand recording is enabled for your extension.
Enabling on-demand recording for an extension
On-demand recording must be permitted for each extension:
- Go to Extension and Trunk > Extension and edit the extension.
- Click the Features tab.
- Under Call Recording, find Record on Demand and enable it.
- Click Save and Apply.
If this is not enabled, pressing *1 during a call has no effect.
Accessing the recording afterwards
- Go to Reports > Call Recording.
- Find the call by date/time, extension, or phone number.
- Click the play icon to listen or the download icon to save the MP3.
On-demand recordings are labelled in the CDR with the recording start time, so you can identify which segment was recorded if multiple start/stop events occurred.
Tips
- Inform the caller before recording — UK law requires all parties to be aware calls are being recorded. A simple verbal statement ("I'll record this for reference, if that's OK with you") is sufficient for on-demand recording.
- If you need to automatically record specific types of calls (all inbound, all outbound), use the Always recording setting on the extension or trunk instead of on-demand.
- The
*1code is the default. If it conflicts with another feature code, check PBX Settings > Feature Codes to confirm the correct code for your system.
Summary
Press *1 during a call to start recording, *1 again to stop. Recording must be enabled per extension under Features > Call Recording > Record on Demand. Access recordings from Reports > Call Recording.
