Auto-Provisioning IP Phones on Yeastar P-Series Cloud Edition
Introduction
Auto-provisioning lets IP phones configure themselves automatically from the PBX when they boot. Instead of manually logging into each phone, you enter the MAC address in the PBX, plug the phone into the network, and it downloads its settings and registers on its own. This is the recommended approach when setting up multiple phones.
How it works
- The phone boots up and requests a provisioning server address via DHCP option 66 (or option 160 for some models).
- The DHCP server returns the PBX provisioning URL.
- The phone downloads its configuration, sets up its SIP account, and registers.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1 — Enable auto-provisioning on the PBX
- Go to Call Control > Auto Provisioning.
- Enable auto-provisioning.
- Note the provisioning server URL displayed (e.g.
http://yourcompany.ys7.com/prov).
Step 2 — Set DHCP option 66
On your router or DHCP server, configure DHCP option 66 to the provisioning server URL from Step 1.
Can't set option 66? You can enter the provisioning URL directly on each phone's web interface at Settings > Auto Provision > Server URL, then trigger provisioning from the phone menu.
Step 3 — Add the phone in the PBX
- Go to Call Control > Auto Provisioning > Phones, click Add.
- Enter the phone's MAC address — printed on the label on the underside of the phone (format:
00:15:65:xx:xx:xxfor Yealink). - Select the phone model (e.g. Yealink T43U).
- Assign the extension from the dropdown.
- Configure any DSS/BLF keys if required (for speed dials or colleague monitoring).
- Click Save and Apply.
Step 4 — Plug in the phone
Connect the phone to power (via PoE switch or power adapter) and network. It will:
- Boot up (30–60 seconds)
- Request provisioning information from DHCP
- Download its config from the PBX
- Register the assigned extension
Step 5 — Verify
In the PBX portal, go to Extension and Trunk > Extension — the extension should show as online.
Tips
- The MAC address must match exactly. A single wrong character prevents provisioning.
- If a phone has an existing configuration from a previous system, factory reset it first so it picks up the new provisioning config.
- After provisioning, the phone reboots once more to apply settings — this is normal.
- You can update phone firmware and change BLF key layouts centrally from Call Control > Auto Provisioning without touching each phone individually.
Summary
Auto-provisioning is configured. New phones deploy in minutes — add the MAC address in the PBX, plug the phone in, and it configures itself automatically.
