How to Enable Call Waiting on Yeastar P-Series Cloud Edition
Introduction
Call waiting lets you receive a second incoming call while already on a call. Without it, callers hear a busy tone when you're engaged. With it, you hear a beep, can see who's calling, and choose to answer or send to voicemail.
Enabling call waiting for an extension
Call waiting is configured per extension:
- Go to Extension and Trunk > Extension and click the extension to edit.
- Click the Features tab.
- Find the Call Waiting setting and toggle it Enabled.
- Click Save and Apply.
How it works when enabled
When you're on a call and a second call arrives:
- Your phone plays a call waiting beep tone.
- The screen shows the incoming caller's number.
- You can:
- Answer the new call (your current call is put on hold automatically)
- Reject the new call (it goes to voicemail or the next destination)
- Ignore and continue your current call (the new caller keeps ringing until timeout)
Switching between calls on a Yealink phone
- Press the Hold soft key to put the current call on hold.
- Press Answer to take the new call.
- To switch back, press Resume (or the hold line button for the first call).
Disabling call waiting
If a user doesn't want to be interrupted during calls:
- Disable the Call Waiting toggle in the extension's Features tab.
- Alternatively, the user can enable Do Not Disturb (DND) to block all calls while busy.
Call waiting vs DND vs Call Forward on Busy
| Feature | Effect |
|---|---|
| Call Waiting | Second call rings through while you're on a call |
| DND | All calls blocked; goes to voicemail or failover |
| Forward on Busy | Second call forwarded to another number (e.g. mobile) when you're busy |
These can be combined — e.g. disable call waiting AND set forward on busy to send overflow calls to a colleague.
Tips
- For reception or customer-facing extensions, enable call waiting so callers aren't met with a busy tone.
- For staff who need focused concentration, disable call waiting and set a forward-on-busy to a ring group or colleague.
- On Linkus, the app automatically handles multiple calls in separate call panels — no extra configuration needed.
Summary
Call waiting is a per-extension setting. Enable it for user-facing staff, disable it for users who prefer not to be interrupted. It's in Extension and Trunk > Extension > Features.
