Using Call Pickup to Answer a Colleague's Ringing Phone

Introduction

Call pickup lets you answer a call that is ringing on a colleague's phone without walking over to their desk. If you hear someone's phone ringing and they're away, you can pick it up from your own handset using a simple feature code.

Directed call pickup (answer a specific extension)

To answer a call ringing on a specific extension:

1. Pick up your handset (get a dial tone).
2. Dial ** followed by the extension number.

Example: To answer a call ringing on extension 1005, dial **1005.

The call is transferred to your phone instantly.

Group call pickup (answer any ringing call in your group)

If your extension is part of a Pickup Group, you can answer any ringing phone in the group with a single code:

Dial *4 to answer the earliest ringing call in your pickup group.

Setting up pickup groups

1. Go to Call Features > Call Pickup Group.
2. Click Add.
3. Give the group a name (e.g. Sales Team).
4. Add member extensions.
5. Click Save and Apply.

Members of the group can now use *4 to pick up each other's calls.

Using BLF keys for pickup (Yealink phones)

If your phone has BLF keys configured for colleagues (set up during auto-provisioning), you can use them for pickup:
- A flashing red BLF key means that colleague's phone is ringing.
- Press the flashing BLF key to pick up their call directly.

This is faster than dialling ** + extension and is the preferred method on a busy reception desk.

Tips

• The ** directed pickup code works even without a pickup group — you can pick up any extension's ringing call, not just your group's.
• If two people try to pick up the same ringing call simultaneously, only one will succeed — the first to complete the ** + extension sequence gets the call.
• Inform staff about this feature — it significantly reduces missed calls when someone is away from their desk temporarily.
