Resetting a Yealink Phone to Factory Defaults

factory reset Yealink reset phone wipe settings

Rather not do this yourself?

X2Comms Managed Edition customers don't need this guide — we handle all configuration and system changes as part of the service. Not yet with X2Comms? We deploy and fully configure Yeastar systems from day one. Call 03301025678 to find out more.

Introduction

A factory reset wipes all configuration from a Yealink IP phone — SIP accounts, network settings, speed dial keys, and personalisation. This is needed when re-deploying a phone that was used on a different system, or when troubleshooting a phone that behaves unexpectedly.

Warning: A factory reset is irreversible. All settings, call history, and contacts stored on the phone are deleted.

Method 1 — Reset from the phone's menu

  1. On the phone, go to Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings.
  2. Enter the advanced settings password (default: admin).
  3. Go to Reset Config > Reset to Factory Settings.
  4. Confirm.
  5. The phone reboots — this takes 60–90 seconds.

Method 2 — Pinhole reset button (last resort)

Some Yealink models have a small reset pinhole on the base of the phone:
1. With the phone powered on, use a straightened paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds.
2. The screen goes blank and the phone reboots into factory state.

This method works when you are locked out of the phone menu (e.g. unknown admin password).

After the reset — re-provisioning

Once reset, the phone contacts the provisioning server automatically on boot. If auto-provisioning is set up on the PBX, the phone downloads its configuration and registers without any manual steps.

See the Auto-Provisioning IP Phones guide if the phone doesn't re-provision automatically.

Tips

  • Note the phone's MAC address before resetting (on the sticker on the base) — you'll need it if you have to re-add it in the PBX.
  • If the phone was previously auto-provisioned, it re-provisions automatically after reset with no manual work needed.
  • Default advanced settings password for Yealink is admin unless it was changed.

Summary

Reset from the phone menu (Settings > Advanced Settings > Reset to Factory Settings) for most situations. Use the pinhole button only if the phone menu is inaccessible.
