Introduction
Once you have created an extension, you register a physical IP phone (or softphone) to it. This guide covers manually registering a SIP phone — most commonly a Yealink desk phone.
Before you start
You need the following from the extension settings (Extension and Trunk > Extension, then click the extension):
| What you need | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| PBX domain name | Your PBX URL (e.g. yourcompany.ys7.com) |
| SIP port | Default: 5060 |
| Transport protocol | Found at: Extension and Trunk > Extension > Advanced tab > Transport |
| Extension number | Extension Information section |
| Registration Name | Extension Information section |
| Registration Password | Extension Information section |
| Caller ID name | User Information > Caller ID field |
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1 — Access the phone's web interface
- Find the phone's IP address. On most Yealink phones, press the OK button (the centre navigation button) to show the IP on screen.
- Open a browser and go to
http://[phone-IP](e.g.http://192.168.1.105). - Log in to the phone's web interface (default username and password:
admin/admin).
Step 2 — Configure the SIP account
- Navigate to Account > Register (or Account 1 on some models).
- Fill in the fields:
| Phone field | Value to enter |
|---|---|
| Register Status | Enabled |
| Label | User's name (shown on phone screen) |
| Display Name | User's name |
| Register Name | Registration Name from PBX |
| User Name | Extension number (e.g. 1001) |
| Password | Registration Password from PBX |
| Server Host | Your PBX domain (e.g. yourcompany.ys7.com) |
| Server Port | 5060 (or 5061 for TLS) |
| Transport | Match the PBX transport setting (usually UDP) |
- Click Confirm (or Save).
Step 3 — Verify registration
- On the phone screen: the user's name and extension number should appear (this means it's registered).
- In the PBX portal: go to Extension and Trunk > Extension — the extension should show a green online status icon.
Making a test call
Dial another internal extension number to confirm audio works in both directions.
Tips
- If the phone shows "Registration Failed", double-check the Registration Password — it is case-sensitive.
- If the PBX domain doesn't resolve from the phone, try using the PBX's IP address instead as a temporary test. If that works, the issue is DNS.
- Yealink phone default credentials (admin/admin) should be changed after setup for security.
Summary
The SIP phone is registered and ready to use. The extension status in the PBX portal shows online (green).
